Reincarnation
I didn’t believe in reincarnation. That turned out to be a problem, standing there in the equivalent of a celestial waiting room arguing with someone who had a softly glowing white tablet, who’d met me at the moment of my death and started talking about what came next.
Within minutes there were three men arguing with me, all white-haired and slightly round. A woman with soft gray hair and a white hanbok that Jung Kyung-hee would have killed for explained it was okay I didn’t believe in reincarnation, I was going back to Earth anyway.
Being dead, I didn’t need to breathe, but I took a breath anyway. Habit, more than anything. And I tried to see the bright side: space travel, the cure for migraines…
Maybe this time I wouldn’t get a broken body. Or maybe I’d be reincarnated so far in the future I wouldn’t need to worry about that at all.
